Re: Performance Test / Load Runner on Mobile Application Concept

Hi,

A few options/answers to your questions:

1) You could script in multiple ways:
a) With Device:
 i) Using Proxy Mode: On an open unsecured Wi-fi, connect the mobile and laptop having LR installed and setup Laptop IP as proxy for the mobile device. Select Mobile(HTTP/HTML)(for native apps) or Mobile TruClient protocol(for mobile browser app) and start recording using proxy mode.
ii) Using WinPCap: Connect the mobile and laptop on an unsecured wifi with laptop as proxy. Use Wireshark from Laptop while navigating the transactions on Mobile. Save the traffic as a PCap file. Select the relevant Mobile protocol and use Analyze Traffic mode, give the relevant details(PCap file location, client/server side IP) and generate the script.
iii) Using Mongoose in-built utility: Select the relevant mobile protocol, select Record and Analyze Traffic mode. Enter relevant details and record and generate the script.

b) Without Device:
Select the relevant mobile protocol. Select Record Emulator mode. Give the Emulator location, Command line: -avd <<avd name>> -netspeed full -netdelay none and record and generate the script.

2) Based on answer to Q1, you could choose either Emulator mode or other modes as well.

3) Yes, you would need multiple LGs similar to normal desktop web app.

4) Once the script is generated, it is very similar to what you do for a normal desktop web app. You would not need emulators beyond your scripting activities.

5) Yes, it is based on num of VUsers.

Apart from the above options, if none of them work, to record/generate the script, you could also try to capture the network traffic through sniffing tools like Fiddler and generate the script based on the content you see on Fiddler.

Thanks,

Surya
