Re: Virtual User Generator

Re: Load runner controller request channel timeout

Hi Patrick,

Please check the following knowledge documents:

Error: "Run test failed. Reason: The request channel timed out while waiting for a reply after... Increase the timeout value..."

http://support.openview.hp.com/selfsolve/document/KM00363317

Initializing a test in performance center fails during the "Load LTOM to Controller" step

http://support.openview.hp.com/selfsolve/document/KM00522214

For PC 11 please review:

Error:" Run test failed. Reason: 'The request channel timed out while waiting for a reply after 00:10:00. Increase the timeout value passed to the call to Request or increase the SendTimeout value on the Binding. The time allotted to this operation may have been a portion of a longer timeout.'"

Re: Raw Data doesnot shows

Hi Raj,

As you are a customer with valid HP contract I would suggest you to post in LoadRunner Support Customer Forum where the questions are answered with priority.

Additionally if the issue in a case is not resolved you can always reopen the case or open a new one by referring to the old case ID.

Regarding the Raw Data does not show problem, in LoadRunner 11.52 User Guide under the Viewing Raw Data chapter is stated “The Raw Data view is not available for all graphs.”  For example it is not available for merged graphs.

Could you please specify:
1. for which graph or graphs you are trying to get the raw data and

2. if you see “No data available”

a) in Raw Data Pane for a specific graph or

b) after clicking on “Click to retrieve raw data” as described in the following document  Error: "No raw data available for this graph" error message is displayed for Oracle graph in Analysis 11.52 patch 1

Re: Java Record and Replay - Working Directory

The documentation provided clearly states that the working directory should be set to he working directory of the application along with this from the help menu: "A working directory is necessary only if your application must know the location of the working directory (for example, reading property files or writing log files)."

The  application is looking for property files, writing logs which are all located on the unix server.

Why would it be the the LR directory?

Basic questions about Load Runner

Hi Guys,

I'm new to Load Runner and i have some basic questions. Please provide your suggestions!!!

1. why we are using various protocols when recording script?

2. How should we decide our application support specific protocol?

3. what are all the best practices that we need to follow at the time of scripting in VuGen?

Thanks,

Karthik

LoadRunner 12 / Load Generator Unix/Linux

Hello,

As part of a LoadRunner trial (I recently downloaded LoadRunner 12 trial version), I'm trying to use a Linux server as a load generator.

The install documentation says:

- Change directory to /<installation root directory>/InstData/Linux/VM.

- Launch the setup wizard by typing: source ./installer.sh.

However:

- path InstData/Linux/VM does not exist in the LR 12 Trial installer

- there's no "./installer.sh" file to execute in the install folders I downloaded,

- when I click on "Load Generator" in the main install menu, nothing happens (while LR full install works fine)

The question is: is it possible to set up a Unix/Linux Load Generator with the trial version of LoadRunner 12?

If yes, could you please let me know how to do this?

Thank you for your help!

Regards,

Alexis

Designing he Scenario by pasuing

Hello Experts,

I have designed the scenario like the below.

Total No. Of Users: 202

Scenario Designed as below:

1. Ramp Up: 50 Users 6users every 10 sec’s and run 50 Users 15 Min's

2. Ramp Up: 50 Users 6users every 10 sec’s and run 50 Users 15 Min's

3. Ramp Up: 50 Users 6users every 10 sec’s and run 50 Users 15 Min's

4. Ramp Up: 52 Users 6users every 10 sec’s and run 50 Users 2 hours

Here test will run in steady state for 2hrs for 202 Users

5. Stop the users:  50 Users 6users every 10 sec’s and run 50 Users 15 Min's

6. Stop the users:  50 Users 6users every 10 sec’s and run 50 Users 15 Min's

7. Stop the users:  50 Users 6users every 10 sec’s and run 50 Users 15 Min's

So, now I have to pause the test between the users like the below

1. Ramp Up: 50 Users 6users every 10 sec’s and run 50 Users 15 Min's

Pause

2. Ramp Up: 50 Users 6users every 10 sec’s and run 50 Users 15 Min's

Pause

3. Ramp Up: 50 Users 6users every 10 sec’s and run 50 Users 15 Min's

Pause

Basically   the idea is  : as soon 50 users  finished their duration, they should not create any  transaction until all the 202 users reached  and then again all 202 users should start  creating the transaction for 2 hrs steady state

Could someone please tell me how to do that?

Thanks,

Raj

Re: Designing he Scenario by pasuing

Have you every tried the Rendezvous?

Re: Designing he Scenario by pasuing

Hi

I heard never ever should try  Rendezvous

Thanks,

Raj

Re: Designing he Scenario by pasuing

Hi Raj,

Try inserting Rendezvous ponit in the controller. The steps to enable/disable Rendezvous points are:

1) Open the controller scenario
2) Select the menu option scenario -> Rendezvous
3) Rendezvous Information dialog box opens
4) Select the name of Rendezvous point
5) Click on Enable (or Disable) Rendezvous button

Thanks

Renjith

Re: Basic questions about Load Runner

The application uses different protocols to contact with the server, for example, browsers use http protocol to contact with the server. Sometimes one application may use more than one protocols to contact with the servers.

LoadRunner will use the same protocols to simulate the pressure to the server, for example, a lot of http requests to simulate the load to a web server.

If you are not sure about the which protocol should be used, just try to use the protocol adviser. It will detect the protocol used in the application.

Your last question is hard to answer, you need to know some programming skills when working on the scripts, and different protocol may need different knowledge. First you should know which protocol you need to work on, then narrow down your scope of learning.

Re: Basic questions about Load Runner

Hi Karthik,

In addition to JerryYin reply I would like to add that you can find a short protocol description in Create a new Script window which can be useful when you choose a protocol.

More detailed information for each protocol is available in LoadRunner user guides

LR12.00_LoadRunner_Guide.htm

LR_11.52_UserGuide.html

As you are new to LoadRunner you can find a lot of useful information in http://www8.hp.com/us/en/software-solutions/loadrunner-load-testing/demos-documents.html#pd1=1_16_7_11_13

It contains: Demos, Videos, Technical Videos and sample courses for HP LoadRunner 11.5 and HP VuGen 11.5 under education & training  >  Take a Test Drive of HP Adoption Readiness Tool (ART) for LoadRunner.

Re: LoadRunner 12 / Load Generator Unix/Linux

Hi Alexis,

With the Community Edition (trial version) of LoadRunner 12 you can make only full LoadRunner 12 insallation.

Re: Designing he Scenario by pasuing

Hi   Renjithrajan,

If  I follow the steps which you mentioned,  am i able to reach what I smentioned as below.

Pause

Thanks,

Raj
